About

Pankaj Mukherjee is a technology correspondent based in Bengaluru. He trained as an engineer at NIT Karnataka before turning to journalism through IIMC Delhi — a path that still shapes how he reads product launches and policy PDFs.

He started out covering funding rounds and cap tables at Inc42, moved to Mint's technology and startups desk, and spent time on the YourStory conference circuit talking to founders outside the usual metros. Those years left him sceptical of deck language and careful about who actually benefits when a platform "scales."

At Newzvia he focuses on artificial intelligence, cloud and enterprise software, and the regulatory layer around tech — particularly MeitY consultations, data governance, and how Indian-language AI products are pitched versus how they perform in the wild. He has followed India's AI policy conversation closely since the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence push in 2018, through state pilots and the messy middle where guidelines meet product roadmaps.

He writes like someone who still files RTI queries for fun, but tries not to sound like it in the lede.
